Currently, our Bloomerang, DonorPerfect, eTapestry, Salesforce, Little Green Light, and Virtuous integrations support the creation of soft credits during export.
Soft credits are records of donations made to participants of a peer-to-peer event. A soft credit is a recognition that the peer-to-peer participant was responsible for earning the donation, even though they didn't make the donation directly. Conversely, the person who made the donation receives a “hard credit” for the donation.
This article explains in more detail how soft credits work with Qgiv integrations. At the end of the article, you’ll find a summary outline of what we cover.

There are a few scenarios that result in the creation of a soft credit during export.
Donation made to a participant outside of registration
Any donation to a participant outside of registration will create two records in the integration: a record for the donor with a hard credit for the donation and a record for the participant with a soft credit for the same donation. The integration will link the two records and note which one is the soft credit.
That way, you can keep track of how much individual participants are responsible for raising.
Sub-registrant registration fees
Registration fees for peer-to-peer events are exported as donations. So when a Primary Registrant pays a registration fee on behalf of an Additional Registrant, that fee is considered a donation and is soft credited to the sub-registrant.
Soft credits for sub-registrant's registration fees are only applied to fundraising participants. Non-fundraising sub-participants don’t receive credit in the integration.
Please note: The Bloomerang integration does create soft credits for non-fundraising participants.
Summary
For some peer-to-peer transactions, multiple gifts will be created in the integration:
-
Donation to a peer-to-peer registrant (not during a registration)
- 1 hard credit for the donor
- 1 soft credit for the participant
-
Donations that occur during registration
- Donor record is created for primary registrant, if one doesn't exist
-
Primary registrant gets a hard credit for all items in a transaction, for example:
- donations
- registrations
- store purchases
-
Sub-participant (fundraising)
- donor record is created, if one doesn't exist
- gets a soft credit from the primary registrant for their donation (if there is one; legacy registration only)
- gets a soft credit from the primary registrant for their registration fee
-
Sub-participant (non-fundraising)
- doesn't get any hard or soft credits, except for Bloomerang
Please note: The Virtuous integration will only credit one Gift record for a transaction. That record will then be assigned a Marketing Segment that is attached to the fundraiser receiving the credit.
