First things first:
Nope! Your Qgiv password was not part of a data leak.
If there are ever any security issues related to your account, we will notify you immediately and directly.
What this does mean is that you're probably reusing passwords across several services and that one of those services did experience a data leak.
Many operating systems have implemented a way to notify users when a stored password has been detected in a data breach.
For example, Apple iOS will check your stored password credentials against a list of known data breaches. If you're using a password in multiple places and it's been detected in a breach, the notification will appear when you attempt to log in to any service for which you're using that password.
You'll be prompted to change your password, which you should immediately do to prevent anyone from accessing your accounts that use the shared, leaked password.
Pro tips:
- To ensure your accounts of all kinds are as secure as possible, make sure you do not reuse passwords across services.
- Change your passwords on a regular basis.
- Consider using a secure password storage service such as LastPass.
