What is a hidden field?
A hidden field is a type of custom field you can add to a form that allows you to attach a static value to each transaction submitted via the form.
What kinds of values can I attach?
Hidden fields are used primarily to help you with reporting, so the value you attach should be something you would want to find quickly later.
For example, maybe one form is being used for an email campaign and another is being used for a print ad campaign. You might make “Campaign” a hidden field and use the type of campaign as the Field Value.
Later, when you run a report of all of your transactions, you can see which ones were generated by each campaign and which forms those fields are attached to.
Can I use hidden fields to track which URL led a donor to a form?
Hidden fields are static, can only contain one value, and are specific to the form they are attached to. If you want a single donation form to have a few different URLs for tracking, you might want to try Associated Info Parameters instead.
Will donors see the field?
No. The field will not appear on the public-facing form.
